Christ out of Xmas?

In recent years there has been a war between the church and the world regarding the sacred day that represents the birth of our Lord.  When you see the word Xmas in place of the word Christmas, does it upset you?  Do you see it as the world's attempt to subtract Christ from Christmas?  If so, take a deep breath.  Indeed the world is seeking to make little of our Messiah but we ought not give them credit where it isn't due.

The letter X is a Greek abreviation for the name of Christ.  This form of abreviation has been used for the past 1,000 years in the English language.  The Oxford English Dictionary cites the words Xtian and Xtianity from 1845 to 1966.

This is one thing less to be concerned over this XMAS!  By the way... even though the world may try with all it's might, it will never remove Christ from Christmas.  He is it's very definition!

I really enjoyed reading this. So often even as Christians we jump to conclusions about various things (I myself am so guilty). Even when it comes to reading scripture. We jump to conclusions about the meaning because we don't understand or study the context. Good teaching here! I'm learning more and more every day! :)

I'm so thankful that this is a blessing. Christians really need to make sure that they have a basis for what it is they believe. I'm guilty of jumping to conclusions as well and pray that. as I continue to get older, I'll take the time to patiently weigh out my opinions to make sure they are viable. I was listening to the radio yesterday and witnessed a preacher using an Old Testament verse of scripture to condemn those who have tattoos and piercings. He was guilty of reading it out of context. The scripture was Leviticus 19:26 and the Lord was instructing His peple not to imitate the rituals of the heathen. When their people would die,the heathen nations would cut their flesh and mark their bodies out of sorrow. If we see this text as telling us never to get a tattoo or get a piercing then we need to go back a few verses and see that it is wrong to shave the sides of our heads, disfigure the edges of our beards and even to eat fruit from a tree in it's first three years! Don't get me wrong, I don't have any tattoos or piercings but only because of personal preference. May we take the time to soundly study God's word!!! Thank you for your comments!
